Grey Sweater
-Autumn 2004

She walks
down the neighborhood streets.
Her grey sweater
matching her surroundings.

Her breath of white
exit of grief
exhaling
out from her.

The bottom of her jeans
as well as her shoes
wet from nights of rain
clouds still remain
and block the sun,
she hasn’t
finished letting go just yet.

Still, she holds on,
sooner or later
something
is going to open up
and let her back in.

She stops,
places a hand
on her cheek,
wishing
she had a life
like she once had.
She continues to walk
and draws
a smile
on her face.

Knowing that
leaves do fall
but never
forever.
