Neglected Soil
-April 9, 2008

The sky has neglected the soil
and sand dances on our cities.
Devouring the landscape
disguised as a rainstorm.

Dust covers our bodies
while we wait for the water to wash our despair away
and then we can dance as we rebuild our ruins.

The sky teases our sights
and skin cracks like the ground
under the midday blaze.
Grey has never been so beautiful
‘til you lose sight of all tones
and all becomes black and white.

Dust covers our bodies
while we wait for the water to wash our sins away
and be baptized into a new light of glory.

Send our spirits a holy ablaze
and we can dance on these ruins.
Our tears giving new birth to neglected soil.
